L'Isle sur la Sorgue

L'Isle sur la Sorgue

this is our last field trip with the whole group. It is Sunday and Thom, Lori, Peg and Cliff must depart on Monday.

We fell in love with Isle sur la Sorgue. They have market days on Thursdays and Sundays. Since it was Sunday the town was crowded. We were able to park easily about a block and a half from the center of town. I suspect t will be more of a challenge in the summer.

The town is actually on an island in the middle of the river. Hence the name. They have waterwheels that are still functioning. Those wheels and the large expanses of water give the town a laid back relaxed atmosphere even in the midst of a hectic market day.

spicesNeed spices? They are sure to have almost any spice you heart desires. If they don't the guy in the booth next door or three stalls down the street probably does.

Smooth river. The market has much more than food items. There are dishes, antiques of every type - I liked the old keys, each about 8" in length, sets of pastis glasses, silver, etc., etc.

We purchase a table cloth. It was new and extremely well made. Actually double sided. It is a beautiful souvenir and cost about $50. We could not have purchased anything even close in the US for under $100.

If I were one of those folks who really understood antiques and collectibles and their values I would come over here with a truck.

MotorcyclesWe had lunch at the Jardin D Aubdnel (€ 94.01 for six folks.) It was acceptable but not up to the standards to which we now hold French restaurants. After lunch we wander some more.

Then we have a pastis and watch the flow of people. It was a delightful day. We would be very interested in renting a house near hear as part of a future trip to France.

We work our way back to St. Remy. Tomorrow the group breaks up. Doris and Jerry still plan visits to Lyon and Paris.

Next is Avignon.
