Fountain, Aix

Aix en Provence

oris and Jerry visited Aix during a trip to France and Italy in 1998. It was one of those stops on a road trip. We pulled into town, parked the car and had lunch. We then spent some time browsing through the shops and back streets. We found it absolutely delightful. I remember it as a small town.

John White was with us on that trip. He tried very hard, but without success, to convince the clerk in a pharmacy to quit he job and join us on the remainder of our trip. John tried this in about every town we visited. I suspect he would have been like the dog actually catching the car had one of his prospects accepted.

Anyway, on THIS trip we pulled into Aix and would swear it is a different town. Sometime between 1998 and 2002 they have moved in a lot of 100 year plus old buildings and created a city from a village. It does not seem at all as we remember. Eventually we do find the street and shops of our earlier visit - they have not changed that part very much.

French StreetWe have not had the opportunity to do much more in Aix than have lunch and browse the shops. It does look like an interesting city to visit. It is much larger that we thought and promises a lot to explore.

Aix is one of those places we have placed on our "next trip" list. You just can't see everything. I do like this street scene from Aix. It is a great depiction of one of the alluring aspects of France.
