Collioure

At the Beach in Collioure

ollioure beckons. When you travel in a group you have meetings to plan the days and develop some agreement on what folks want to see. We do have a hard and fast rule that anyone can opt out of any planned event with no hard feelings, but on this trip everyone seemed to be on the same wave length.

This was our longest day trip. Almost all the way to Spain. Even then it was only about 100 miles round trip.

Thom and Lori at the beach. The weather on April 22nd was not hot, but the beach still had a lot of visitors basking in the sun and swimming in the Med.

Note that Lori is wearing a vest. It was borderline chilly depending on the wind. At the same time there were topless ladies on the beach that did not seem to notice the chill. Maybe they were Vikings down from the North.

I can't imagine what this place is like in the Summer. The parking lot was full on a Monday afternoon. Don't even think of parking on the street. Chances of finding such a spot are about the same as winning the lottery.

Lunch at AmphitryonWe have lunch at the Amphitryon. (€ 90). Nothing outstanding. In Collioure we made a tourist mistake. We stopped at the first restaurant we saw that looked decent. We were to later discover that there is a great restaurant in the area that used to cater to the French impressionist masters and took their paintings in exchange for food. I understand a lot of the art is still displayed and the food is great. We missed it. Research, research, research!

Peg on the beach.

Peg stands at attention while holding tightly to her ice cream cone.

On the way to Collioure we had stopped at Homps to check out the schedule for a day cruise on the Midi Canal.

We end the day at the Shopi, a small market, in Olonzac. There we pick up some chicken and various other items for dinner.

A great day. Tomorrow is scheduled for Narbonne, Homps and the Midi.
