e have called this section "Approach" for want of a better
name. It is really about how we planned the trip, the group that
traveled, the modes of transportation and our travel style. We hope
that this is useful to anyone planning a similar venture.
The
Group
In 1999 a group of folks
came together at a Summer Party and decided that we should all go
off to Italy and rent a villa. It seemed like a good idea so the
planning started. The group grew to twelve and we found a great
place in Tuscany. It was a good trip. You can see the web site for
Tuscany 2000 by clicking
here.
The Tuscany
trip was so successful that we decided to try it again--this time
renting a house in France. Only six made this trip.

Traveling in
a group can be great but it also creates a number of potential conflicts.

it work.
Planning
With
six people there are a lot of ideas. We researched the web, checked
out house rentals, read books and magazines. Take a look at some
of the resources and the process. Click
here.
In
fact, we got so excited about the trip during the planning stage
we gathered for a great pre-trip celebration. Click

Transport
Getting
to Europe means flying. This can be anything from a luxury first
class seat to cattle car. Our group got to experience it all. That
is one of the advantages of working for an airline as two members
of the group do.
This
trip we used the train and a Eurail pass. Since we were planning
to wander about in the back country we also rented two cars for
the group.

Style
I
recently met a lady who explained that she and her husband love
to travel and that they only stay in small luxury hotels. Now I
love luxury, but my experience is that these places are so good
at taking care of your every need that they tend to forget you are
a real person. We have developed our own ideas about travel. If
you read this section you will better understand the focus in the
rest of this site.
